Born in Brooklyn, New York
April 30TH, 1941
Melvyn Goldstein was born on April 30, 1941, in Brooklyn, New York, where he spent his early years surrounded by family and the vibrant energy of the city he loved. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School in 1959, Melvyn began working immediately, embarking on a long and successful career as a salesman in New York City’s Garment District. Before starting his career, Melvyn proudly served his country in the United States Army—an experience that reflected his sense of discipline, humility, and quiet strength.

After completing his military service, he began his professional life at Stretchini, a division of Bobbie Brooks, where he worked for 12 years. He then spent 21 years at Baby Togs, forming deep professional relationships and earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his work ethic, warmth, and professionalism. Always driven and hardworking, Melvyn wasn’t one to slow down—after leaving the garment industry, he earned his real estate license and continued working, bringing his natural people skills, honesty, and dedication into a new chapter.

In July of 1964, Melvyn met the love of his life, Irene. They got married in October of 1966 and settled in Queens, New York, where they welcomed their two children, Jana and Craig. In July of 1974, they moved to New City, NY, a place that would become home for the next 49 years as they raised their family and built a life full of memories and love. In January of 2021, Mel and Irene made the move to Monroe, New Jersey, to be closer to their children and spend as much time with them as possible—a choice that reflected his unwavering devotion to family.

Melvyn loved his family fiercely. There was nothing more meaningful to him than being surrounded by the people he loved. He was a devoted husband (Bozie), a proud and loving father, a caring father-in-law to Jason, and a cherished grandfather—known lovingly as Pop Pop—to his two pride and joy granddaughters, Dylan and Sydney. He was also a beloved uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, and friend. He had a gift for making others feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

Throughout his life, Melvyn found joy in staying active. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing tennis and was an enthusiastic bowler, even joining a league. As he got older, he became a dedicated member of his local gym, where he worked out religiously—always focused on staying young, healthy, and strong. He also had a lifelong passion for photography and a natural eye for capturing life’s quiet beauty.

Mel’s resilience and strength were perhaps most evident in the way he faced many health challenges. He survived two open heart surgeries—one at age 40, and another at age 57—emerging each time with his signature positive outlook, determination, and radiant smile.

More than anything, Melvyn will be remembered for his kind heart. He was a true gentleman—caring, calm, loving, and accepting of all people. His warmth wasn’t loud, but deeply felt by everyone who knew him. He had a way of making people feel at ease, a personality that lit up every room, and a spirit that inspired those around him to be better, kinder, and more grateful.

His greatest legacy is not only the love he gave, but the way he lived—with strength, grace, and a joy for life that never dimmed. His presence will be missed tremendously, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
